Teaching

1. What is the difference between the gift of teaching (in a Christian context) and teaching in a secular context (e.g. university or high school)?
Different purpose: provide truth of Jesus vs convey information
Different content: Jesus and the Christian life vs secular subject matter
Different responsibility: to God for sound doctrine vs to self or superiors
Different enablement: inspiration of the Holy Spirit vs own abilities

2. Can someone teach without having the gift of teaching?
Yes, but not as likely to change lives. The supernatural gift of teaching is necessary if one is to be a really effective Christian teacher.

3. How should we deal with false teaching?
Pray
understand the truth – be grounded in scripture and teachings of the Church
point out the truth, avoiding hostility
go to the person’s superiors with specifics of the false teaching

Evangelism

4. What is the difference between a witness and an evangelist?
Audience: witness’s audience more narrow, evangelist’s broader.
Content: witness telling own story of coming to Jesus, effects in life, etc.; evangelist the gospel more in general.
Possibly witness primarily words, evangelist words & deeds.
Witnessing is an everyday task, being an evangelist a special gift.

5. Are we all called to be evangelists? witnesses?
We’re not all called to be evangelists in the special gift sense but are called to evangelize through our witness.

6. Can we all participate in evangelism? If so, how?
Yes – through prayer, witnessing, contributing to evangelists & evangelizing ministries.

7. Sometimes we hear of "evangelizing the baptized". What does this mean? Is there a need for it?
Bringing the baptised to a full knowledge of Jesus and conversion to living a truly Christian life.
Yes, it appears that many Christians are nominal, even Sunday only, Christians.

Word of wisdom, Word of knowledge

8. What difference, if any, is there between the gift of wisdom as presented in Isaiah and the word of wisdom in Corinthians? the gift of knowledge and the word of knowledge?
The Isaiah gifts are general – being able to act wisely and to understand truth.
The word gifts in Corinthians are specific – being told by the Spirit something for a particular time and circumstance.

9. What is the difference between the word of wisdom and the word of knowledge?
Word of wisdom – how to do something or state something.
Word of knowledge – specific information, how things are.

10. What are some circumstances in which the word of wisdom would be especially useful?
In decision making; in telling someone about Jesus in a way they can hear.

11. What are some circumstances in which the word of knowledge would be especially useful?
In bringing someone to repentance (what they need to repent of); in praying for healing (what to pray for or what the person should do to be healed).
